This workshop is offered by Ako Aotearoa in partnership with the Dyspraxia Support Group of NZ.

Developmental Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a neurological condition which is often misunderstood. It can present in a similar way to other types of neurodiversity, but has a different basis and underlying cause. In this workshop we will look at what may be happening in the brain of your learner with dyspraxia/DCD and explore ways you can support these learners so everyone has a better experience in your teaching and learning space.

About the facilitator

Jacqui Scott is the CEO and National Fieldworker of the Dyspraxia Support Group of NZ Inc. As well as having an extensive background in health, within the pharmaceutical industry, Jacqui is passionate and knowledgeable about Developmental Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder.

Her experience in this area came initially from parenting her now adult son, but has grown to working hands-on in a support services programme catering for tamariki and rangatahi, as well as a social group for adults.

Jacqui has filled many roles, both voluntary and as an employee, within the Dyspraxia Support Group over the past 15 years. Jacqui volunteers at the Champion Centre, an early intervention programme, and at her local primary school. She is also engaging in study at Massey University.

Jacqui works alongside whānau, educators and employers to best support New Zealanders with learning differences. She regularly presents to different groups across a wide range of sectors. Her workshop will give an insight into dyspraxia/DCD and provide practical tools and strategies to take away.

• describe what dyspraxia/DCD is, and the impact it can have on people
• apply strategies in your teaching practice to support your learners with dyspraxia/DCD.
